Sunday Best: Glorified Loungewear

shirt: Old Navy, joggers: Smith's Market, sandals: Delias, heart sunglasses: American Eagle

Oh, hey! A bunch of pictures of me wearing clothes!

I'm really happy about the fact that joggers are so fashionable right now, because they are basically just glorified pajama pants. Except I can't wear my pajamas to work. I mean, maybe I could. After all, I'm on the radio. You can hear me but you can't see me. But still, I try to keep it semi profesh (that's totally a real word). This past week though, I really struggled when it came to getting myself ready. As many of you probably know due to your running noses and itchy eyes, it's allergy season. And the fun thing about allergy season is that I'm allergic to allergy medicine. Thanks body, you are hilarious. Also, I've been battling a sinus infection for the past two weeks. I even went to the doctor. The doctor! That's a big deal because I have a great phobia of doctors and hospitals. I avoid them at all costs. And I'm on an antibiotic. An antibiotic! I can't remember the last time I was on an antibiotic. Probably grade school? Maybe? Mom?

So yeah, I don't want to be like, a Debbie Downer . . . but I've been kinda miserable. Especially because I despise being sick. I mean, who in their right mind likes being sick? I'm not good at resting. At all. So I've continued to go to work, do yard work, exercise (or attempt to) during this weird illness and by doing all these things, I think I've stopped myself from getting better sooner. Maybe one day I'll learn my lesson.

I wore this outfit midweek. Nothing like my favorite floral joggers and a top knot to kick a sinus infection in the rear. Best of luck to all of you fighting off allergies. Take some extra Benadryl for me since I can't (okay, don't really take extra).

And a sidenote: I really do have a major case of wanderlust just as my shirt professes. Ever since getting back from Thailand, I just want to go on more exciting trips. One day I might get Thailand documented on the blog. One day . . .

Sunday Best: Welcoming Winter

sweater: AdornIt, jeans: Kohl's, boots: Kohl's, necklace: Maurice's, leather cuff: Millie Made

Earlier in the week when I sported this sweater, I was uncomfortably warm. It shouldn't be uncomfortably warm to wear a sweater in December but that's been the case as of late. All last week, I went on my jogs with Munch (our pooch) outside in shorts and a t-shirt. Winter, say what??

I can't complain. I've loved spending the extra time outdoors basking in this odd December sunlight. However, I'm ready for some snow. And this weekend, some snowflakes finally started twirling from the sky. Perhaps we will have a white Christmas after all!

XOXO - Have a super fab week!

P.S. If you need any last minute stocking stuffers, check out my mom's Millie Made shop. She creates amazing leather cuffs and other jewelry. The one I'm wearing in these photos says, "BE BRAVE", a constant reminder for me to break out of my comfort zone and take some risks. I'm so grateful for that message I can wear on my arm.

Truth Tuesday

  • I realized I never shared our Christmas card on this here blog. So behold, rest your eyes on this beauty, with miniature donkeys included:

  • I try to be a nice person. However, sometimes fashion bloggers make my skin crawl. There are a couple that I faithfully read. My favorite is probably Kendi Everyday. Not only does she wear cute clothes, but she seems like she'd be a cool person to hang out with. I also have a girl crush on The Awkward Girls.

  • We have a fake Christmas tree, mostly out of convenience. However, after watching some videos of how quickly real trees burn down I think I'll stick to my fake one. Watch for yourself.

  • Sorry half of this post is about Christmas. I'm in denial that it's over.

  • If you like murder mysteries, you probably need to read And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I finished it so quickly and I still can't stop thinking about it. Just don't read it at night when you're all alone. I made that mistake and I was all jumpy the rest of the night until Brian got home. Luna tried her best to protect me.

Sunday Best: Getting Down to Business

dress: Rue 21, blazer: Maurices, tights: TJ Maxx, heels: Old Navy, necklace: Forever 21

Let's talk about colds for a minute and how dumb they are. If you are sick with the stomach flu and you're throwing up, you obviously stay home from work. But where do you draw the line for the cold? Every time you get a runny nose do you call in sick?

This week, I developed a cold. My throat is on fire and when I speak, I sound like a teenage boy going through puberty. This is definitely a problem since I am a radio deejay for a living. However, I had so much to do at work this week that I didn't want to take time off. I felt like I couldn't. So I trucked along all week with cough drops and water bottle in tow. Yep, I'm that girl. The girl that goes places sick and spreads my germs to everyone.

Then today, we spoke in church. I put on my tribal print dress with blazer and told myself I'd get down to business, just like I had all week long. I spoke over the pulpit with my raspy voice and said a prayer to God the entire time that I wouldn't burst into a coughing attack. No coughing attacks occurred but I did decide to draw the line. After speaking, I came home, changed into sweats, buried myself beneath blankets, and zonked out for several hours. Sometimes it's more important to get some rest rather than get down to business. If it counts for anything, I really liked my outfit today. Even if I only wore it for an hour.

Sunday Best: Subject of All Mockery

sweater: Smith's, pants: ShopKo, combat boots: Shoe Carnival, levi jacket: Gap, scarf: Bohme

I am the baby of my work. Everyone is older than me. Being the baby means you become the butt of all jokes. I understand this. After all, I grew up in a home where I was the oldest and had the privilege of doing all the mocking. Now I guess it's my turn to be mocked. It's okay, I can take it.

An easy thing for everyone to make fun of is the way I dress. I tend to wear what I think is cool, regardless of whether or not it is actually cool.

I wore the above outfit on Tuesday and, you guessed it, I got made fun of.

All our different radio stations are housed in the same building. Each station has big glass windows, so you can look in at those working in the station next to you. You can't talk but you can stare at each other . . . and do sign language if you both understand it. Anyway, I get to work and notice the deejay in the studio next to our newsroom is diving around the room very dramatically and shooting at me with his hands. He looked like an insane person. Then I walked down the hall and realized what was going on after another guy asked me, "Are you going on a big hunt?"

Ohhhhh, they're making fun of my camouflage pants.

Which makes no sense because another deejay wears camouflage shorts every other day. I never see them make fun of him.

"Actually, I'm going to war," I replied dryly.

What I don't understand is why no one made fun of my sweater. A bulldog wearing glasses, seriously?

Just wait until they see what I wear to work tomorrow.

I also want to add, we took these photos in our driveway. Isn't our driveway the cutest? I think so.

Sunday Best: Count Kelsey

jacket: Forever 21, t-shirt: internet (can't remember the site, ha), pants: Kohl's, boots: TJ Maxx, earrings: Kohl's

One! Two! Three! Three weeks since last Sunday Best, muahahaha (lightning in the background). Obviously, if you don't know what that counting nonsense was, you haven't watched Sesame Street in a while.

So I've been slacking on Sunday Best posts. Let's get real, they're awkward. I feel awkward posing all sheepishly to take pictures of myself. I feel awkward posting them here and making myself look vain. But in all honesty, it's fun for me to look back through my Sunday Best posts and see how myself and my style have evolved.

I'm the furthest thing from a fashion blogger. Heck, I don't even feel like a blogger at all. But this space is mine to document and grow, and I'm cool with that.

Maybe in a few months time, I'll look back at this post and get a good laugh. "Look at me with my anti-Twilight t-shirt, pleather jacket, red lipstick, and pasty skin. I'm like a Bella-hating vampire."

Yes, I'll probably say something like that.

Just call me Count Kelsey. At least Halloween is this month, right?

Truth Tuesday

  • I am just mind-blown by this pretty area that surrounds me; this valley I call home. Sheesh, I'm blessed. We went to Bear Lake for Labor Day, even though it rained on and off all day, and Logan Canyon had me in awe with her beauty. Some of the trees are already in the beginning stages of changing colors, which makes me thrilled.

  • September through December . . . it's my favorite section of the calendar. So happy September is here and I feel like it's going to bring plenty of good things with it.

  • Since I didn't work yesterday, I keep thinking today is Monday. But then I realize it's actually Tuesday. Tuesdays that feel like Mondays are one of my favorite things, because the weekend seems to come extra quickly.

  • Sometimes on long drives, I enjoy talking the lyrics to songs. Even better, whisper the lyrics to songs. It makes the most endearing love songs sound like they're coming from an obsessed stalker.

  • Should I be worried about myself since the two items at the top of my "Kelsey wants to buy shiz" list are kitty shoes and overalls?

  • Brian and I were talking about how we coped with our anger when we were younger. I used to chuck rocks at a stop sign. I think that's, like, against the law, probably.

  • I finally saw Django Unchained. I was really disappointed. I think maybe I just had too high of hopes since everyone was all, "Oh gosh, best movie ever." And I know what you're thinking, "Oh, it was just too violent for you and you couldn't handle it." Nope. I'm just a girl who gets impressed by solid story lines with well-developed characters. The story line was, meh, alright. I felt no connection to the characters. On the bright side, at least I got to stare at Leo. Too bad it took a whole hour until his character was even introduced.

  • I don't own a brush. It's kind of a pain and I should maybe think about buying one. Or I could always shave my head because that would be a lot cheaper and save me tons of time.

Sunday Best: Knotted

elephant top: Forever 21, dress: Kohl's, sandals: Head Over Heels, purse: Smith's, shades: Kohl's, earrings: Target

I remember singing the song "Do Your Ears Hang Low" when I was little and thinking how it was so silly. I mean, of course I can't tie my ears in a knot or a bow.

However, I can tie my shirt in a knot. This is a trend I want to like but it still makes me feel uneasy. Whenever I knot a button up with a pair of jeans, I can't help but feel like some ridiculous Mormon-version of Daisy Duke.

But I tried the knotted look with a baggy t-shirt over a dress and I thought it was kind of fun. What's more fun than a dress of many colors paired with a knotted elephant print tee? Nothing.

Except amusement park rides. And slip-n-slides. And rodeos. And driving really fast. Okay, maybe there are lots of things that are more fun.

But still, I think I found a way to tie-it-in-a-knot-tie-it-in-a-bow without feeling like a weirdo. And really my shirt was just wrinkled and I was too lazy to iron. So I thought, "What the heck? I'll wad it up and tie it in a knot."

Any takes on tying your shirts up in knots? How do you style it?

Truth Tuesday

  • I have ombre hair nowadays (it's been like this for several weeks now and I'm just a terrible blogger). It was one of those things where I couldn't really believe I was doing it because there were very few ombres I saw on people that I liked. Not only that, but everyone was doing it. I guess it's kind of like that part in Mean Girls: "I saw Cady Heron wearing Army pants and flip flops, so I bought Army pants and flip flops." That's me and my ombre hair I guess. I really do like it a lot though.

  • One of my favorite smells is freshly trimmed grass. I get to smell it quite often now that spring is fully upon us and summer is knocking at the door. Spring is filled with good smells. Blossoms, rain, and fresh cut grass. Ah, my heart.

  • I used the bathroom at work the other day and the toilet wouldn't flush. I had no idea what to do. I helplessly lifted the top off and tried pulling and twisting a few things as I hoped for the best. Nothing I did seemed to help. So I went to the nice secretary lady to tell her. Only she wasn't there. So what did I do? I went back to work and didn't tell a soul (until now). I let it be the next person's problem. I know, I am a terrible person. But I felt so embarrassed about approaching one of the men I work with and being all like, "Hey, since you've been training me all week could you also train me on how to work the toilet? I peed in there and it won't flush." Yeah, not awkward at all. All I can say is I'm going back to holding it and never using the bathroom at work again.

  • My wrists are sore from the half marathon I ran on Saturday. How is that possible? Why, I don't really know. My dad started teasing me and asked if I run on my hands now. I will assure you that I have not reached that level of insanity yet. I still stick to just my two legs. However, it was pouring rain the entire duration of the race and my hands got really cold around mile four. I think I may have clenched them for the majority of the race. Oops. I must admit though, I feel pretty hardcore that I ran in freezing rain. And of course the whole week before the race it was sunny and in the 80's every day. It's fine. I'm over it.

  • I wanted these sandals from Target oh so bad but bought a pair of wedges instead. Now I'm glad I did because I've seen these sandals every-freaking-where. Apparently a lot of people out there have good taste. They are cute, but I can't buy them now.

  • I have the Great Gatsby soundtrack on repeat. Also, the movie is grand. So grand that I want to go see it a second time. This is serious stuff because I rarely rewatch movies. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on the movie and here's my take on it: Loved it. Be prepared for your brain to be overstimulated. There is a lot to look at. At times the cinematography is a bit over the top, I'll admit. But for the most part, it's absolutely beautiful to watch. Also, the majority of the dialogue is taken straight from the book, which this girl really appreciates. Any thoughts on the movie from those who saw it?

Sunday Best: Patterned

scarf: Bohme, top: Old Navy, pants: Kohl's, boots: Kmart, shades: F21

I used to despise purchasing new pants. I bought them out of necessity since society wouldn't approve of me running about pantless. I think my low interest in pant shopping was because they were always so boring. I just never got a thrill out of buying a new pair of jeans when they all looked basically the same to me.

My interest in pants took a turn for the better (or worse for my wallet) last year when colored pants came in. Pant shopping became a new adventure as I could now choose my favorite bright colors to put on my legs. And then floral pants came in and I quickly claimed two fun pairs as my own. And now, this spring, patterned pants are all the hubbub. I found this fun grey pair at Kohl's this past week. I decided I deserved them as a reward after starting a new job as a morning radio deejay (more on that later, but just know it's the most fun job ever) and taking two major tests that I have good feelings about.

So all I really have to say in this post is that I never want the trend of wearing fun pants to end. I will cry alligator tears if pants ever decide to become boring again.

Are you a fan of patterned or colored pants like I am?

Sunday Best: Circle of Life

sweater: F21, colored jeans: Head Over Heels, boots: Fashion Box, glasses: gift, earrings: Target

Without fail, I still sob like a baby every time I watch The Lion King and Mufasa dies. I mean, come on. That scene is one of the more heart-wrenching of all movie scenes if you ask me.

Disney just knows how to tug at the heartstrings. And they also know how to make money. Movies, amusement parks, and now superbly awesome sweaters. What will they do to me next?

And while we are on the subject of Disney, I highly suggest you give the Disney songs station a try on Pandora. It's one of my more favorite things when they play a Lion King tune. That was a good call getting Elton John involved on the soundtrack. Say what you want about the man, I love him. He's a musical genius.

Also, I felt like my animal print glasses were an appropriate thing to wear with this outfit. I don't wear them often. They are a little. . .loud. Like rawr loud. I also can't help but feel a bit self conscious when wearing fake glasses since I have perfect eye sight. I get that the whole trend is a little ridiculous. But still fun. However, I did once lie to my grandpa at a family function when I was wearing a pair.
"Why are you wearing those ridiculous glasses, Kelsey?"
"No Grandpa, these are new sunglasses. They protect my eyes from the sun without being all dark."
I don't think he believed me. But he didn't push the subject. So I guess it kinda worked.

Truth Tuesday

  • I hate to say it, but January irritates me. It's always a slightly depressing month. Thank the heavens  I was born into the world early and didn't wait for my January due date.

  • I am not sure I have ever bawled in public as hard as I did during Anne Hathaway's solo in Les Miserables. My whole body was trembling. And then later that night, I had a headache from all the crying. Boo hoo. Seriously though, she was perfect.

  • I want to throw a masquerade party more than anything. Then I can decorate a mask. And wear an old prom dress for no real reason.

  • I can't even describe to you how much I am currently adoring this song.

  • I would be more than thrilled to own Angelina Jolie's entire wardrobe from The Tourist. She looks so classy in that movie. And Johnny Depp is. . .Johnny Depp. He still runs around like he is Captain Jack Sparrow. But I still love him.

  • Brian made me try my first ever McRib yesterday. I don't think it's really meat. It might actually be made of rubber. Brian is still upset I'm not a McRib lover.

  • A hair appointment must be made. My bangs are still crooked from the last time I totally botched them.

  • I am anxiously waiting for this and this to arrive on my doorpstep. And when they do, perhaps it will be time to clean out my closet (I think I'm out of hangers).

  • I wore earmuffs for the entirety of the day yesterday. I wore them while I made dinner, while I did yoga, you name it--I probably wore them. But it's been in the negatives nonstop here. The high of twenty today made it feel like paradise, allowing me to shed the muffs and show off my ears again.

  • Sometimes I do random side jobs. Like yesterday I helped a friend with a tutorial video he is working on for a guy's website. He wanted someone to do the voice over for the tutorial and I came to mind, so I guess that means I have a somewhat pleasant voice. So maybe sometime you will hear me annoyingly directing you to do things. "Now enter your email address and press next in the lower right hand corner. . ."

Sunday Best: Warm Fuzzies

ear warmer: Tai Pan, button up: Forever 21, floral top: Smith's, pants: Old Navy, boots: Zappos, mittens: Maurices, necklace: DIY

I might be more prone to wear darker, muted colors during the winter season. But now and again, I just go crazy with bursts of pastel color. The pops of pinks, greens, and blues just warm my heart a little. Much like a cute pair of mittens will warm one's hands.

Here's to hoping we get more snow where I live this week! I want a white Christmas!
